Brookfield Elks Sports Draw Thanks You!
The Brookfield Athletic Association (BAA) has sponsored the Sports Draw in the area since 1936, in order to provide recreation programs and sports fields for 84 years. The original Draw, which was named the Big Game Hunt, has progressed in various ways: to meet new challenges, to offer more prizes, and to benefit more people. Covid-19 has been the most difficult year to date.
Facing the challenge head on, rather than giving up on the 84 year run, and thus losing funding for the programs, the BAA took a chance, and made the necessary changes to stay solvent, while offering an attractive raffle, that would also help several deserving charities. The Hunting Contest segment has continued along with the raffle.
With the ongoing support of prize sponsors, over 200 sellers, faithful and new buyers, and recognizing the hardships created by Covid-19, the Sports Draw chose to donate $1.00 from each ticket sold to three different charities. This enabled the BAA to donate $2,100 each to three organizations: Feed Nova Scotia, Hub House in Truro and The Red Cross.
Thanks to our volunteers and store staff, the handling fees from tickets sold at Truro Canadian Tire, totaling $3,400, goes each year to support their cause “Jump Start for kids”; and for sales at the Truro Superstore, totaling $2,400, are donated this year to Hub House.
The BAA owes its gratitude to each and every ticket seller and to everyone who bought tickets, a profound Thank-you for helping make the Draw of COVID successful! It was exciting to see first prize go over the top, from the guaranteed $20,000.00 to the final sum of $44,002 which was won by: Curtis Slaunwhite of Terence Bay, NS!
Other prize winners were:
2nd prize: $5,000 President Choice Gift Cards, to Trueman Russell of Upper Stewiacke.
3rd prize: Snowblower donated by Truro Canadian Tire, was won by Diane MacMillan, of Queensland.
4th prize: Generac Generator donated by G & D MacDonald, to Howard Sleep of Port Hawkesbury.
5th prize: $500 Gift Certificate donated by MacQuarries Pharmasave, to Ron Downing of Bible Hill.
Congratulations to all the winners!
Thank-you all, once again, for your support which makes it possible for the BAA to continue to provide many services!
The 85th Brookfield Elks Sports Draw coming in 2021, pray-fully leaving COVID-19 behind, will bring an exciting slate of prizes to you our valued supporters!
Stay well, stay safe!
